"The Fall! Ignoring Deadlines and Its Consequences''
Friday, October 22, 2010 / 10:46 PM
What is deadline? Dealine is the time by which something must be finished or submitted. It is also the latest time for finishing something. Be it students or adults working in the society, deadline is something that we always come across in our life. No matter how hard one tries to avoid from deadlines, it is usually a must to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
Having a deadline will enable one to learn to be more responsible, which is a good thing, Being responsible is something that is best when cultivated at a young age. They will then be able to learn about the importance of being responsible. We have to be responsible in everything that we do. For instance, a 14 year old teenager is responsible for keeping his own room neat and tidy, That is his responsibility. Another example is that a mother should also be responsible for feeding her baby on time and taking good care of her baby. If she fails to do that, she is irresponsible. Thus, responsibility is practised when deadlines are concerned. Not only that, having and completing your work before the deadline will leave a good impression to everyone. For instance, our new English teacher wants the class to hand in their 'Distinction In English' book by the end of today, but one of the pupil failed to do that. Thus. the student has left a bad impression to the teacher. It is also through such deadlines that tells us more about a person if we just got to know the person. When we are given a deadline for every piece of work, we will also learn to organise our work in such a way that we will be able to hand in every single piece of work on time. not leaving a bad impression. It will also help us when we work in the future as we will be able to organise and prioritise work according to the deadline. However, some think that there is no need for deadlines as it only gives them more pressure. Indeed, having a deadline will give one more pressure as one is given a limited time to finish their given work. However, if there is no deadline, i believe that no one will actually bother doing and submitting their given work on time, except for those who are actully responsible. The others will just wait for their superior ro remind them before they will actually start rushing out their work. I think that not having a dealine will not only affect the present but the future too. For instance, when people from a younger generation work together with people from a slightly older generation, they will treat them as their seniors, and even their role model. If the seniors are unable to submit their work on time, the juniors will think that it is alright to be irresponsible and not hand in before the deadline. Thus, no submitting their given work before the deadline will ldead to serious consequences. When one does not submit their work on time too, it will reflect that he is a irresponsible person. If there is anyone that actually fail to hand in their given work before the deadline, there is only one reason, and that is 'laziness'. I strongly believe that 'Procrastination is the thief of time'. When we are given a work and deadline, we should start today. Those who are responsible start right now. Those who are irresponsible will chatter to themselves that they will start real soon, but only to find out that it never happens and it has already passed the deadline. Thus, ignoring deadlines will actually lead to serious consequences, such as leaving a bad impression and being a bad role model to juniors. We should not ignore deadlines but actually learnt from what deadline has got to teach us. Koh Kai Lun (14) 2i3 (2010) |
